Fashion and Museum district: Decadent
The most famous street in this posh area is the P.C. Hooftstreet, the Dutch version of Rodeo Drive; exclusive fashion, high-end brands, Hummer parking, Dutch celebrities, definitely a place to see and be seen, and once per year the P.C. Hooft Stiletto Run is well worth a visit or join in but bring your best stilettos and prepare to compete for a chance to win a free shopping spree.
Aside from the P.C. Hooftstreet, the main Van Baerle street offers as well exclusive shopping, and the Van Gogh museum, Rijksmuseum (golden century paintings), Stedelijk museum (modern art, yet temporarily located elsewhere) and Concertgebouw (concert building) fit the luxury allure of the Fashion and Museum district.
Nature and relaxation can be found at the Museumplein, a huge green grass field with the huge I AMSTERDAM logo, and the well known Vondelpark, the most famous city park with its relaxing patyways meandering along trees and ponds. The Vondelpark is a little like the Central Park in New York, always crowded with people rollerblading, running, picknicking and making music. If you forget to bring your own picknick basket they even have a picknick service.
