East Village
East Village is San Diego’s own version of New York’s SOHO and San Francisco’s SOMA.
This former industrial district was once home to dozens of warehouses, many of which have been converted from manufacturing to more recreational pursuits. The look and feel of this neighborhood is unmistakably industrial in nature. The former warehouses and factories have been transformed into trend-setting urban bars and eateries.
My favorite spot by day is Café Chloe a feast for the culinary senses, there is nothing like an afternoon in the sun outside Bar Tivoli, downtown’s first and oldest watering hole, evenings are all about Basic Pizza, a great bar and table-sized pizza beckon you to this great old brick warehouse where great music and chill crowd.
East Village also features Petco Park, home of the San Diego Padres, as well as a growing number of shops, bars and eateries. Look for the opening very soon of the next big idea here, Cowboy Star, a western steakhouse concept.
