Unbelivable! Spectacular! Incredible! Amazing! Magnificent! Breathtaking!
Just a couple words to describe the awesome opening ceremonies of the 2008 29th Olympiad. The 17-day Summer Olympics got kicked off in Beijing by a $300 million production that nothing has ever matched. It was dazzling in every way. The costumes, the make-up, the dances, the props, drums, everything.
The precision and the detail was unprecedented. The scale was tremendous. The Chinese really outdid themselves in welcoming the world to their shores for one of the biggest sporting events. The parade of nations is classic. I watched almost every minute of it, from the epic beating of the newly-discovered drums, to the 6-time gold medalist, Li ning, who ran along the high rim of the stadium where a scroll rolled open to reveal the torch's journey. He lit the olympic flame then awesome fireworks filled the sky.
It was absolutely brilliant. I felt like the tensions of the world and the clash of cultures was felt at a minimum in the stadium. Some of the commercials were either really funny or really inspiring as well.
This Olympics should be great and I hope all goes well.
