Since the middle of the 1990's the rise of food poisoning victims has continued to increase. After a long investigation of what the cause could be the National Food Administration has announced that the water used to grow crops such as vegetables and fruits have been the cause to this.
Over time it has also been reported that the import on furits and vegetables has increased by 60%. Swedish buyers are being urged to demand higher safety qualities to how the improted produce is grown since it has been revealed that the water is full of bacteria.
Another reason food poison victims is on the rise is due to the Swedes food trends. Food items such as mint and banana leaves are often served with dishes. Another popular food trend is frozen rasberries, sprouts and leaf vegetables which are at high risk of food poison due to their unsanitary growth methods.
It is recommended by all Swedes to be sure to wash their produce thoroughly before eating and it can reduce the risk of food poisoning by 90%. As for now it is up to the producers and importers to work together to be sure the growing methods are sanitary.
