The spring/summer edition of India's premium business-to-business style event, Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW), raised it's own bar by emphasizing on comfort, luxury and safety for participating designers and visitors. The fashion design council of India (FDCI) has introduced two new concepts this time around, which included an elevated area in the main lobby and a system of locking the stalls in the exhibition area. FDCI president explained, "This is an effort to bring in the best business in a practical way. The safety issue was an important concern for the designers, so we have provided them with cabins that can be locked, so that they can focus more on business rather than waste three hours just in doing up their stall every morning." They have created everything to attract buyers and to make things easy for designers as well.
In the elevated area, there are several mannequins in white outfits displayed. FDCI president, Sethi explained, "This is a theatrical representation of fashion where mannequins are wearing plain clothes. With this concept, we want to convey that you don't have to be colorful to look beautiful."
Different from the last time, the stalls are structured, uniform and well-defined cubicles with a display window to showcase outfits and accessories.
Designer Kavita Bhartia said, "This time importance has been given to safety which is a major concern for us." Now, they have windows where they can display their outfits and a good-sized cabin that can be locked. They're also excited about decorating the interior of the cabin the way they want to, while not having to worry about safety when they're away. The new ambience gave Bhartia a "happy feeling."
The FDCI has been aboveboard in representing the interests of fashion designers during Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week. They have raised the bar by emphasizing comfort, luxury and safety, which in return will nurture the growth of this industry. They have helped develop the needs of the industry and provided a platform for Indian fashion designers.
The FDCI states, "As a cohesive body, the FDCI will work towards promoting the interests of India as a country, and market individual designers, creating a support for the fashion industry to enter mainstream fashion."
