Like Walking on Water - The Ball that Bounces (Waboba)
One of man's oldest playthings is now turning beliefs upside down, as it crosses the border from land into water. The story of the first truly functional water bouncing ball is somewhat of a David vs Goliath story, where the small, ingenious part toy, part physical activity is ready to once and for all surpass the large beach ball out to sea or even to the bottom of it.
Like many products in general, going from big to small to nano, one could perhaps say that the Waboba - derived from water bouncing ball - is the nano version of the so well-known beach ball. The Waboba has emerged to almost instant acclaim by beachgoers in various countries all over Europe and especially in Australia, where the charming, little, yet major invention is on the path of becoming an iconic toy and water sport activity. Through a distributor in Florida, the ball has been available throughout certain retailers in the US, but now it's time for the Waboba to introduce itself to the beach lifestyle of Californians, with which its philosophy is well aligned.
During its premier season in Australia, 120,000 copies where sold and the company expects that over a million Aussies will have experienced the Waboba by next season's end. Because of the evident similarities in beach culture and weather, Waboba Inc anticipates California to be the big state for Waboba in the US. Austalian Gizmag writes: "...we expect it to become quickly adopted worldwide once people realise what it can do and how much fun it is."
The ball itself has the consistency of a breast implant, very much like a stress-ball, is the size of a golf ball and has a lycra coating. The idea for the ball came when the inventor, Swede Jan von Heland, accidently threw a Frisbee upside down in a pool, only to see it skip across the surface, making it a decade's work to finalize what is now the first ball that bounces on water.
So will David once again defeat Goliath? The question remains to be seen as the Waboba will aim at capturing the imagination of Californians and leveraging their favourite playground in a new active way. "If you're interested in finding out more about the Waboba in California or to buy one, please contact sales and marketing agent leRockstar C.A. at
