While walking from one client meeting to another in downtown San Diego, I was approached by three friendly Southwest Airline employees who handed me a certificate for a $25 discount on my next Southwest flight anywhere.
On Feb. 11, a small army of Southwest Airlines marketing employees in San Diego for an annual meeting blanketed the streets of downtown and gave away discount coupons and free 40 roundtrip tickets, valid for travel from San Diego to any of its destinations!
The employees also gave away drink coupon books and 5,000 discount coupons for $25 off the price of flights to and from San Diego. Now this is effective marketing, down and direct in an economic crisis. Now where am I gonna fly?
