(All-you-can-eat) buffets are something Americans grew up with, from deep fried, fatty and sugary Hometown buffet to extraordinary Las Vegas buffets serving shrimp, salmon and prime rib. With the good experiences in the back of my head and the delightful tastes still on top of my tongue, I decided to go for a dinner buffet at one of the few places that serve in the Netherlands, Ol Round Buffet and Bowling in Nijmegen.
Ol Round Bowling, the so-called popular place to combine eating & entertainment, requires table reservations weeks in advance. That’s right, if you are one of those people who does not plan when you will get hungry and where you will eat, you may be cast into the 'Not Possible' category. However 'Lucky' like I was, I got the chance to get seated to enjoy their buffet.
When sitting down, the first thing I noticed was the small buffet table filled with 10 tiny trays sized for salad dressings, bacon bits, lettuce, tomatoes, some pieces of meat and other side dishes. When I wondering where the main buffet was located, I realized there was none! Yes, that small side buffet table, with the 4 inch diameter trays, was supposed to be the 'Buffet', and to even avoid people from ‘overeating’ the idea was to grill your own meat, to slow down the process of nibbling! When trying to desperately fill my stomach with Coca Cola, I discovered soda fountains are not a part of the buffet and each about 3,50 euros (roughly $4) in the smallest cup size possible!
This 'buffet' was my biggest rip off ever with spending 30,00 Euros (almost $45) per person. Ol Round Buffet is definitely no All Round Buffet!
