The boutique hotel trend in San Diego has brought with it many different flavors and colors, I would describe this one as the most genuine of all. The Pearl is truly what its owners describe as “Down to Earth, Up with Style.” Here the “earth” is the laid back, nautical community of Point Loma, normally not known for its lounge or dining scene, but definitely a resort atmosphere. The Pearl offers a unique combination of fine quality and intimacy in lounge scene, dining experience and resort feel.
Adding to the “genuine” appeal of this boutique hotel is it’s original mid century architecture, what was once an endangered classic of the 1960’s has now been reborn with a perfect mix of vintage and modern, all finished off in a nautically inspired, comfortable, classic, and uniquely styled escape. One of my all-time favorite boutique hotels is the Valley Ho in Scottsdale, Arizona, The Pearl is a bite-sized example of the best of the Valley Ho right in San Diego. Though totally modern, The Pearl makes no sacrifice in warmth or comfort, or edginess.
In winter, it’s interior spaces and rooms remain warm and inviting, in summer, it is off the chart with indoors opening fully to the outdoor classic pool scene. The kidney shaped pool is nestled between the hotel’s 24 rooms, surrounded by cabanas for dining and drinking, and comfortable and classic mid-century outdoor furniture. One of my favorite aspects of The Pearl is the poolside screen that offers ‘Dive-In Movies’ where guests can literally soak in the pool, enjoy gourmet bites and drinks, while watching classic movies like 007. The restaurant lounge offers dishes that are big on flavor and a bit small in size. Dive in and make a splash at The Pearl.
