Best Pizza in San Diego from San Diego Magazine for the last seven years. If you have nostalgia of the thin and crusted wood fired pizza and fresh homemade pasta like you had in Italy, Via Italia Trattoria is the place you have been looking for. This is a modern style Italian restaurant located on the South Pacific Highway 101 between E & D street.
The word “Via” means street in Italian. All around the restaurant’s walls there are names of most popular streets of Italy curved into marble like boards.
The food is always has been authentic because Paolo likes to offer not only traditional Italian, but also recipes you don’t find anywhere else. If you want to try an amzing pizza tried the pizza via Italia with sliced Parma prosciutto, sliced tomatoes, fresh mozzarella and arugula. Also, they are offering more than 20 different fresh homemade pastas. Spinach gnocchi, spinach rigatoni, tagliatelle, bigoli, ricotta gnocchi and many others. I love the fresh spinach rigatoni with lamb ragu.
The wine list is extensive and they offer a large selection of wines by the glass. It is fun to try the wine flights which include 4-half glasses. You can choose a flight from different Italian regions like Tuscany, Piedmont, and Veneto.
Via Italia interior design reminds a Milan stylish restaurant lounge with modern Murano Glass lighting. The service is more casual with a friendly approach. I like restaurants where the staff can express their unique personality. Via Italia’s staff are kind and friendly and with a personal approach.
Buon Appetito!
