The Next Big ThingAccording to the Little Guy
#3 - 'Bare Your Soul' Music
It started with William Hung: the worst thing that almost won American Idol. He's a bad example of where music is going, but he broke the paradigm that music must be 'professional.' Since then have been the Moldy Peaches, Regina Spektor, Jack Johnson... all writing songs that say exactly what they're feeling with no pretenses and no fancy stuff. It's more important for this music to be honest, than masterpieces of poetry or melodically complex.
It's a very mellow, very soft, acoustic, very much "laying around at home, just singing" or "little kid playing with a piano/guitar." And it's growing in popularity. We'll call it....... Honest Pop.
