Currant is a too often overlooked destination for dinner, cocktails and late evening meals. Located in the nationally registered landmark Sofia Hotel formerly the Pickwick Hotel, Currant is at the heart of this neo-gothic gem. The Pickwick was long a transportation hub and crossroads for San Diego, hosting first the Pickwick Express Coach and later Greyhound Bus.
Today, the renamed Sofia is a boutique hotel combining modern and historic touches in an experience that combines top service, comfort and high style. Currant is an experience from it's classic french brasserie decor, elegant yet casual seating, and tableware... Currant is a dining and entertaining experience that offers the brilliant and bold taste combinations of Chef Walter Manikowski. It is California Cuisine with a French falir, farm fresh ingredients melded to create simple yet elegant choices of beef, poultry, seafood and vegetables, entrees range from Roasted Beer Can Chicken and Seafood Cioppino to Duck Cassoulet and Grilled Portobello. Start with an appetizer such as Moules Frites and gourmet popcorn "of the moment" which changes daily.
Last but not least, there are the drinks that include one of the best sangrias in town, cocktails infused with fresh fruits or luscious chocolate, traditional Absinthe service, and a fine wine list, you can libate and celebrate in style. Don't miss Currant!
