the best pizza. ever. hands down.
the first time i took a bite, i honestly couldn't believe what i was experiencing. their pizzas are baked on whole wheat crusts with unique toppings such as capers, goat cheese, slices of ginger, etc. it's the most unique pizza eating experience you'll probably ever have. with a five star rating after over 100 reviews on yelp, i'm not the only one who claims zia as their pizza shop.
the owner, khaled, runs it with his sister, sumaya, and one other worker who mainly keeps to the kitchen. you can tell they all work and care for the place as a family. khaled isn't shy at all and is constantly trying new pizzas. at least once a week, he'll pull me aside and ask me to try a new variety and ask my opinion for it. he could easily talk about pizzas for hours - and keep you interested.
there's usually always a pizza that the owner had just invented minutes before. if you point to it and ask him what it's called, he'll chuckle and, almost embarrassed, admit that he just created it twenty minutes ago. the man's never led my taste-buds astray yet.
this place is really ideal for everyone. normal heights is slightly hipster, urban and artsy cuz it's just north of north park, but it also borders posh neighborhoods like kensington and university heights, so it really appeals to all people, just as does zia's.
my favorites: the carnivore, french chicken, the papay, eggplant, potatoe, veggie and anything that might be the 'new' one that day with out a name..
