African Island Hopping (Bazaruto Archipelago)
Bazaruto Island is the largest island of the Bazaruto Archipelago. It is approximately 37km long and 7km at its widest point. A number of newly updated or just brand new accommodation are offered through a variety of seaside lodge to be found along the beautiful bays beaches of the island. The island is a beautiful, unspoilt, leisure destination and is the perfect place to switch off from stressful city life.
The area around Bazaruto Island Resort in Mozambique is paradise. The impressive beauty of the surrounding coral reefs is enriched by the stunning diversity of the tropical fish, which abound in this sub-tropical ecosystem. The archipelago has well earned its name as the 'Pearl of the Indian Ocean'. I enjoy water sports such as kyaking and windsurfing, and scuba, all are readily available and in abundance.
Various lodges offer opportunities for both big game and surf fishing. With the new interest in conservation, tag and release is encouraged at this paradise in Mozambique. There are numerous opportunities for bird watching and viewing wildlife from the fresh water lakes to the sand dunes, or to the grasslands and swamps.
Visit the archipelago soon before word get around, the reports are most packed with adventurous South African tourists, but I did spot some English and Dutch! More "colonial tourists" are bound to come ashore soon! English, Afrikaans and Portuguese are readily spoken.
