The impacting Arabic influence is still evident in the sleepy Arabic quarter in Granada, Spain. As you enter the oldest part of the city, Albayzin, paved streets become cobblestone paths that are lined with white washed houses. Arabic architecture, treasures and past times can all be found in this area.
The Alhambra Palace embodies the Arabic influence in this part of the world. When the Moors built this structure they were attempting to create heaven on earth and has become the most famous representation of Moorish architecture. Its lace-like architecture, aerial porticoes and “Azulejos” define this magnificent building.
In the city center, by the Cathedral, Arabic treasures can be found at the bazaars held there. Vibrant silks, Moroccan lamps, leather goods, and colorful hookahs line this area of town. Other Moroccan treasures can be found in the surrounding stores too. When shopping has worn you out at the end of the day, Cachimba (Arabic water pipe, hookah) can be enjoyed while relaxing in a dimly lit teahouse.
The Arabic culture has defined this area of Spain making it a step back in time.
