When it comes to romantic getaways, one often thinks of tropical beaches, lush rainforests, scenic waterfalls… but how about the desert?

Jaisalmer in India, considered as one of the most romantic places, is a sandstone city that rises magically from the sand dunes of the Rajasthan deserts.

In the medieval times this gorgeous Indian city was the main trade link to Egypt, Persia, Arabia and to the West but now it’s culturally rich 12th century forts and palaces makes Jaisalmer one of the most exquisite escapes.

Standing over the ancient ramparts of the city and looking out to the open deserts, one can’t help but being moved by its romantic beauty. Taking a camel ride is like a fairytale coming true. Multiple day safaris, mud cottages, sleeping out under the stars, campfire, music, folk dance are so admired but even a few hours spent in the desert, watching the sunset on the sand dunes with a picnic, is enough to inspire great romance!
