Done Well, Very Well! (Bencotto Italian Kitchen)
750 West Fir Street, Suite 103 (google maps)
Tonight I had the fortune to be wandering around Little Italy with a friend. A corner wine bar partially hidden by deep burgundy curtains caught our attention, we traced this hidden treasure and found an absolute pleasure, Bencotto Italian Kitchen.
I eat out often, around 4 or 5 nights a week and I must say our dining experience was an absolutely pleasant surpise. It is rare that you find a restaurant that is true to it's roots (in this case Italian) yet deviates where necessary, modifying some Italian traits to an American taste... fine service, simple, comfortable decor and generous portions.
We shared a couple of selections from the “Pasta Your Way;” which allows guests to "craft" their own pasta dish by selecting the pasta type – either pasta "fatta a mano" (daily hand-made) for a smooth consistency; or "pasta artigianale" (artisanal) for an “al dente” texture, each can be combined with your choice of eight different sauces.
I tried what I called death by Gorgonzola, my pasta of choice, Gnocchi stuffed with Gorgonzola and accompanied by a Gorgonzola cream sauce, the texture and flavor were amazing. My friend ordered a Paccheri (large flat tube-shaped pasta) with the salmon cream sauce, we set a share plate in the center of our individual dishes and absolutely enjoyed the combination.
Bencotto literally means "Done Well" in Italian and I cannot agree more. Head there soon, dine there often and you'll be sure to "Do Well!"

Well, we just returned the other night and had a wonderful but unfortunately, service seems to have suffered a bit, we had a terrible server and my boyfriend has that he will not go back... I am sorry to say!
