Sherlock Homes is not the only dandy in town, his ferocious friend Irene Adler makes an enticing entrance and beckons women into this seemly masculine trend.
The dandy woman is characterized by masculine style yet personified by flattering feminine cuts and accented with refined ruffles, beautiful bows and fine frills. Traditional masculine garments are revamped by sharp tailoring and slim cuts that accentuate the female form. Drab grey and browns are accented by soft colors, exposing a woman’s charm within a masculine style. Fantastic frocks, wondrous waistcoats, handsome high collars are essential to this style completed with flamboyant fob chains or an ornate brooch.
Rag & Bone, Jill Stuart, and Abaete have embraced the female dandy for Autumn/Fall 2010. These designers have added dandy flare to the military and tuxedo trends producing slim cut, dark toned jackets; knee high socks accompanied with variously styled ankle boots; and of course dandy accessories to top it off. Dolce & Gabbana would surely make Irene smirk with their dazzling dandy ensemble. This flawless outfit is comprised of lengthened, drab tweed pants; a dainty high collared blouse accompanied by cascading ruffles; covered with a seal grey cardigan and finished with a Michael Kors belt and hat.
Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana flawlessly express the female dandy manifesto by saying “tailoring is a timeless concept suitable for all women.”
