In 1947, shortly after the end of WWII and during the subsequent Allied occupation of Japan, a man by the name of Mr Tsunemi acquired a passion for denim, which was brought in droves from the United States as no denim was manufactured in Japan at that time.
In spite of the manufacture of denim that began in Japan in 1951 (more expensive and of low quality), he prefered to bring in the American, often used, worn-out and dirty denim which had to be laundered and mended by hand in order to sell on to his customers. Mr Tsunemi's son started Edwin in 1961, creating a thick and rigid jean "16oz" that could literally stand on it's own.
In my opinion, the denim by Edwin are among the best in the world today, they have come a long way as they are now sold throughout Europe, the Middle East and Asia. They are not yet in North America, The US where Denim was born may be next to be conquered by this damn good denim!
