Recent reports point to the interest of Swatch Group in the purchase of luxury jewelery designer and retailer Bvlgari. Of course the Swatch group already own the most well known and respected global watch brands including Breguet, Blancpain, Omega, Tiffany & Co. and Hamilton.
In an interview with German business publication Focus, Swatch Group CEO Nick Hayek confirmed the intention of the company about a possible acquisition of Italian jewelry house Bvlgari. According to him, "Bvlgari is one of the most interesting in terms of investment, international luxe-brand with great potential for further development."
This could be an ideal time for Swatch to make their move as luxury product sales continue to struggle. Bvlgari sales fell more than 9% in 2009. The industry is expected to tfall further through the end of 2010.
At the moment it is not clear whether Bvlgari leadership would agree to a deal with Bvlgari Swatch Group. One thing is certain, the continuing consolidation
