While Away the Hours... (Cantinetta di Verrazzano)
Via dei Tavolini, 18-red (google maps)
After having lived there for 2 years and later traveling on an annual (at least) basis, I consider Florence to be a second home. It is the city where I spent arguably the best time of my life, the feelings emotions and sensory pleasures are hard to express and often impossible to recapture, except each time I visit the Cantinetta di Verrazzano.
The in town storefront, restaurant and wine enoteca of the Castello di Verrazzano, the winery at Greve in Chianti outside of Florence. If the Verrazzano name sounds familiar to my American friends, it is because this family is the one in same as Giovanni da Verrazzano, the celebrated navigator and discoverer of the New York Harbor and the majority of the east coast of the US. He was born here in 1485 and the famous bridge in New York was named after him in 1964.
Now to present day pleasures! The Cantinetta di Verrazzano is a place where I love to savor the true, rustic and refined flavors of the Chianti region, from precious meats, cheeses, fine wines, ports, coffees and desserts, this is a treasure trove for the gourmand and the perfect place to escape the touristy, overpriced and unfortunately low quality of many Florentine establishments today.
The service is also impeccable, they take the time to explain (better if you speak some Italian but not necessary). I will return here always first and last during my visits, often even in the middle of a visit, for one experience never suffices.

Brian, my goodness I love this place, have been there each time I modeled in Florence - you reminded me I must go back
