This week, the latest of Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan’s oft polemic work was installed in Milan’s Piazza degli Affari facing the Italian Stock Exchange. Cattelan’s sculpture is as extraordinary in its size and gorgeous detail as it is controversial in its theme and location.
The marble hand and prominent central finger stand 4 metres high above a pedestal of 7 metres for a total height of 11 metres. Though the name for the work is L.O.V.E., one can extrapolate from the subject matter and placement that something altogether different is meant.
