Xochimilco or the Mexican Venice
Mexico City is the third largest metropolis in the world with almost 9 million people. With so much to explore, you shouldn’t miss this unusual place. Xochimilco, an unpronounceable name for a gorgeous location in the capital.
This little town is located south of the Federal District. Quite difficult to access, you will have to take the tren ligero (Light Rail) at the metro station Tasqueña or the typical microbuses.
Located on a lake, Xochimilco is known for its canals, trajineras and floating gardens. You can rent a boat for 200 pesos an hour and let a person drive for you. The more you are, the more it is worth! That’s the reason why you will see many Mexicans throwing parties on the boats with all their friends and family; eating, drinking and dancing.
If you are running out of alcohol and food, don’t worry! There will always be merchants on a boat ready to sell you whatever you need. Moreover, you can also hire some Mariachis to make it legendary.
The only drawback is, of course, when you need to go to the restroom because you drank too much…
