As the pressures of the now not so new Millennia and the reaction against the movements of the past 2 decades (grunge, tuscan, mediterranean, spanish, and miesian modernism) takes hold, many vestiges of the 1980's are coming back.
This decade, upon which so many of us look with fond reminiscence, has projected an echo effect across music, clothing, and many other style categories. Yet one, has yet to show it's shadow... that is Post Modernism ... the reaction against 1950's and 60's modernism, a blend of neo-classical and modernist cues, that also reflects the positive, nearly euphoric psyche of the 1980's.
This movement is celebrated and survives today in many forms, the techno-forms of Miami Vice, the stately elegance of Philip Johnson's AT&T "Chippendale" Tower in Manhattan, and the furnishings of the Memphis movement so brilliantly placed in the classic flick "Ruthless People"
I would bet it will return just like Back to the Future.
