This 1979 film was based upon the rock opera album Quadrophenia by Pete Townshend and The Who. The story is set in a 1964-5 London/Brighton. In the movie, mod as a "cult" is analogous to any group, religion, or small group of friends. It is against this universal theme of brotherhood and belonging, in a time of change or upheaval that the viewer can empathize with others who go through the trauma of adolescence.
Of course rock music itself is a reflection of youth and rebelliousness, and going through adolescence is the most traumatic part of our youth, this also makes Quadrophenia the definitive Rock album. At least, the most definitive so far... and check out the debut of co-star Sting, playing Ace Face.
