The fluid and deco design of Lambretta was first penned by Aeronautical engineer General Corradino D'Ascanio, credited with the design of the first modern helicopter. D'Ascanio hated motorcycles, and set out to design a revolutionary vehicle. I would say that he succeeded in creating something that was both functional and a beautiful thing to behold. The Lambretta was adopted in the late 1950's and early 1960's by the mod movement, and featured prominently in movies such as Quadrophenia.
