Racing in at Third Place

     Speed Racer, the next big blockbuster of summer, wasn't so big in the box office. Coming in third at a total gross of $19,635,594 behind Iron Man's first place $181,675,868, Speed Racer was a monetary letdown. Reviews also weren't too kind. I saw it and absolutely loved it - way better than Iron Man. Still, the flashy colors and cheesy tone of the trailer was a turn off for audiences (the trailer definitely wasn't misleading, either, but it's a lot of fun- what else to expect from Wachowski?). What Happens in Vegas came in second in the box office at $21,830,378. So for a film that cost so much and had the potential to be a big summer blockbuster, Speed Racer had the unfortunate experience of following in the shadow the the hit that is Iron Man
