The modern version of the Chinese rickshaw has now reached the Swedish capital. The alternative ecological bicycle is called Ecocab and will mainly be used as a bicycle taxi in the inner parts of Stockholm during the summer half-year, but can also serve in arrangements and events.
Ecocab can be used as a mean of advertising and offers a environmental friendly option for companies that wish to be seen, that are thinking in the long term and are prepared to take their responsibility. The material is recycable, is driven by pedals with help from a small electronic engine and does not let out any carbon dioxide.
The founder of Ecocab, Jacob Hessle got the idea when working in Tallinn where the phenomenon is more common than in Stockholm.
"- I've had it in the back of my head for a long time, that the concept would fit in Stockholm", he says.
Seven Ecocabs will roll the streets of Stockholm in the summer, and a 15-minute ride will be $6-7, whether it be to defeat traffic jams or simply a ride for pleasure's sake.
