A franchise chain of low priced hotels in city centers is the business idea that Moment Hotels are working on to establish throughout Europe.
Small additional areas, low costs of construction and a decorticated level of service are meant to keep costs down low. What is generating costs and revenue has been an area of studies for Moment Hotels, saying that for instance restaurants are unnecessary for a hotel at a central location since it's taking up so much space, deriving it to the fact that squaremeters are the most expensive variable for hotels. Therefore, Moment Hotels has aimed at developing an IKEA-concept for the hotel market, taking away everything unnecessary that doesn't create value for the customer.
The company looked at low-fare airlines as a business model example. The oly thing the company didn't want to save money and effort in was sleeping comfort and it-standards. The 10 squaremeter large (small?) rooms contain a good bed, toilet shower, internet connection and flat-TV, all in a nice interior design at a price of $85 - $115/night for two people.
The company wishes to compete with the low-fare, shabby two-star hotels as often found in the capitols of Europe, claiming that it isn't the way a modern person wants to live, hoping that there will be a demand for high standard two-star products.
As of today, no Moment Hotels exist, but the company hopes that the first hotel will open in 2009, at first establishing themselves in Scandinavia, but with a goal of being in expanding European cities, most trafficked by the low-fare airlines.
What the future holds for the innovative chain remains to be seen, but who wouldn't want to franchise a business with a profit margin three times as high as competitors, namely other hotels?
