How much is too much? As far as in-movie product placement is concerned,
I, Robot has definitely brought the standards to a new level. The first 5 minutes of the movie are pretty much just a big giant ad for JVC and
Converse, with slow motion and zoom to make sure you don’t miss anything. The Converse become a gimmick that infiltrates even the dialogues (Will Smith tying his shoes and calling them “things of beauty” or a police officer complimenting him on his “nice shoes”). You also have the Fed-Ex delivery robot and the
Audi concept car just designed for the movie. Oh yes, and between two commercials, you have some slices of real cinema. Of a bad one though…
