THE RESTAURANTThe restaurant
Fredsgatan 12 have a history dating back to 1994 by
Melker Andersson and
Mathias Dahlgren, the latter now with his renowned self-titled restaurant found in Sweden's most upscale hotel,
Grand Hôtel. The address is home of a piece of Stockholm gourmet history. The building used to be owned by
Jan Stenbeck, a founder of a large Swedish investment group who did not only offer low rent for the restaurants housed in the building, but also had a great interest in what was on the menu and not. It is said that especially fine dishes savoured on business trips was flown all across Europe because Stenbeck wanted his chefs to taste the dishes.
Today, Fredsgatan 12 is run by the restaurant imperium
The F12 Group. The menu consists of two parts; "
Tradition" and "
Innovative". An example of the Innovative lunch menu:
- Swedish foie gras "crustad" with tamarind and cherries
- Monkfish "thai" with bok choy and glass noodles
- Chocolate "tartelette" with nougat and red chilli
A 3-dish course from the Traditional menu could look something like:
- Duck parfait with chicken liver, madeira and pistachio
- Sirloin steak "bourguignon" with red wine and truffle
- Crêpes "suzette" with orange and vanilla
Prices range from $50 lunches to $170 dinners. A lot of money, but given that the restaurant has had a star in
Guide Michelin since 1997 and was rewarded "Best Restaurant Altogether" in 2007 by Swedish restaurant guide
White Guide, it could well be worth the visit.
THE CLUBF12
Terrace is a night club, housed in the same domain as its sister venue,
Fredsgatan 12. The night club has huge stares, naked under the sky, hence the name. It presents a view over the Stockholm coastal inlet, and holds an aware crowd that is cosmopolitical, soigned and music interested; the bar was awarded "Best DJ-bar" in 2007 on the Stockholm club stage.
If you ever feel like tasting a world class gourmet kitchen, and then dance under the stars, F12 is definitely the place to go.
