Beginning of the 19th century is a very inspiring period in fashion.
Napoleon Bonaparte crowned Emperor in 1804 was keen to make France a leader of fashion and innovator of design and craft skills.
The renewal of interest in the arts and philosophy of the ancient world paralleled the revival of many classical elements in the new women’s fashion that was based on an interpretation of the styles from Greece of the Golden Age.
Simple slim silhouettes of dresses were enriched with innovative decorations, Eastern, European and Gothic influenced embroidery
I wanted to bring this elegant, sophisticated, yet structural look to contemporary dress.
While working on this project I learned a lot about goldwork embroidery, which I all did by hand… It took some time… some hours and days, but I am quite happy with the result:)
